Nearby Activities

Cook's Beach

Our favorite beach is a 3 minute drive up the coast from Seaflower Cove. A locals location maintained by the county, a well marked path leads down from street-parking to the rugged, protected beach, perfect for an afternoon with the kids. The only drawback is the lack of restroom facilities.

Point Arena Lighthouse

A short 30 minutes north of Gualala you can find the hamlet of Point Arena, with small cafes and lunch spots. Nearby is the Point Arena Lighthouse, offering tours to the top and amazing views up and down the rugged coastline.

Gualala Point

The northernmost point along the Sonoma Coast, Gualala Point is a county park with a charming visitor center open on weekends. Pay the modest parking fee or park outside the park and walk in for free. A quick trail takes you to the beach and sandbar.

Fort Ross

One hour south towards San Francisco sits Fort Ross, a historic outpost for early settlers to the region. This state park includes tours, period performances, great hiking, and wonderful views.

Walk On Beach

The first beach you reach in Sea Ranch heading south. Public parking with restrooms is available right off of Highway 1, and a short 1/2 mile walk to the bluffs provides access to the bluff trail up and down the coast. The pocket beach is slightly south along the bluff trail, but note its not accessible at high tide.

Gualala River Kayaking

Outside of the rainy season (when the river flows too fast), you can rent Kayaks right at the river mouth and explore up the river for miles. Paddle your way into immediate tranquility up the north or south fork of the river.

Sea Ranch Golf Links

A links-style 18-hole course hugging the coastline and open to the public. Test your skills on this challenging course and grab a bite at the links cafe after your round.

St. Orres

Fine dining on the Northern California Coast, minutes from the house. This unique property offers a full dining room and a more informal cafe with fresh seafood and local ingredients.

Bowling Ball Beach

A geologic treasure located about 20 minutes north of the house, at low tide you can find a series of carved sandstone features in the sand (and killer tidepools!)

Salt Point State Park

A large state park along the coast 30 minutes south of the house, Salt Point offers spectacular hiking and views, and is one of the few places in California where mushroom foraging is legal and encouraged. Come find boletes, chanterelles, and more!

Coast Kitchen at Timber Cove

Situated just south of Salt Point State Park, Timber Cove sits on an exposed bluff with uninterrupted views up and down the rugged Sonoma Coast. The restaurant is known for its local ingredients and California cuisine.
